Invoices and receipts

A document, the entries it makes, and the numbering it takes.

An invoice is a document until it is issued. Issuing it takes the next number in its series and writes the ledger entries. Numbers are not reused, and a cancelled document keeps the number it took.

A receipt is matched against one or more invoices. A payment that matches nothing is still recorded, as money received and unallocated, rather than being held outside the books until somebody works out where it belongs.
